Depression does not only root from extreme alienation, traumatic experiences or emotional harassment. Most of the time, depression in people, especially those in their quarter-life period, comes from perfectionism and idealism. The desire to find something perfect is high especially with highly-motivated individuals, but their fall because of their own intentions is as hard as their desires.

One’s perception in life can be shaped by idealism. Idealism roots from developing the perfect side of life. Everything in an ideal world agrees with the values and moral a person gives him or herself to live a daily life. Idealism gives one the capability to have aspirations, but too much could also loosen their perspective on reality.

However, idealism is not achievable because not even the person who thought of it is perfect. Each human has flaws, physically or character-wise. An ideal person is non-existent for anybody looking for the best kind of romance because they themselves are flawed.

One’s perception in life changes because of their disappointments, but the only disappointed person is the idealist and perfectionist. Most people who come back up realise that they are dealing with reality, and that surviving and being practical are also important things to consider.

It is highly important to consider the balance between different perspectives. Understanding them effectively can help one find the key outside depression.

Condescension is a Form of Depression

Superiority is highly important especially for people who perform well professionally in their own fields, but this does not give them the right to step on people based on their experiences. In the professional world, superiors will hunker against newly-employed employees for personal gain, but in reality, superior professionals may actually be depressed.

A condescending attitude is a defence mechanism against rejection. It is a way to conceal one’s true identity by means of shielding it with accomplishments, top-notch performances and objective usefulness in their given field. In this way, their shining moments overshadow possible rejection from other people. They can feel they belong with other people in this manner.

But when one is condescending, one feels alone and outcasted. Accomplishments are important, but focusing much on accomplishments to use as an excuse for one’s flawed personality will never give them the care and concern of other people. In this way, despite their accomplishments, they feel refused, and rejected.

Depressed people usually turn to religion or spirituality to ease the pain of this rejection. This helps them know that a greater power beyond humans, which may or may not exist, could accept their flawed personalities, but in the end, everything everyone ever wanted was acceptance, and doing away with a condescending attitude could make things better.

Desire Leads to Control, and Control Leads to Depression

When you think about it, people desired something since their birth. They desired to find their way into their careers once they reached the proper age. Realities had caught up with cynicisms, which in turn, have affected the efforts people give when it comes to achieving their desires and dreams. Many become depressed because their desires were not met, or they were disappointed.

Desire leads to control. One disciplines oneself to achieve this task by studying, fulfilling their responsibilities and ensuring they have everything covered to achieve the thing they desire. However, too much control over one’s self will deprive them of the same desire, they become a totally different person when people control themselves.

When you try to control things to get what you desire, you do not only affect yourself, but you also affect the other people involved in your desires. You also pave the way to get yourself into further frustrations and disappointments, which may lead you down a path of depression and anxiety.

If you remove expectations, and the want to control situations to work with in your favour, then you grant yourself the chance to live what life has to offer.  One gets to understand that life is about living the ups and downs, and doing what one could for their desires and accepting realities, yet trying again, if they do not win their desires.

A Long History of The PPI Claims Scandal

In 2007, UK Consumer Rights Group Which? had launched a compounded complaint from numerous consumers complaining that banks had sold them an insurance policy that they were ineligible for from the start. Upon this complaint, the Financial Services Authority had taken action and they had discovered that bank employees had dastardly mis sold the insurance in favour of higher commission.

It did not take long for the FSA to launch a formal discussion with banks about recognising the immensity of the financial scandal and that it needed their full support. Instead, banks launched a legal challenge against the FSA, which the latter won and had PPI claims made simple as banks became cooperative and the Financial Ombudsman’s weight had decreased, but not to a comfortable level.

Mis sold PPI had created a cultural impact in the United Kingdom. Claims management companies, which had sent unsolicited text messages and cold calls to many people, even children, inviting them to have the company represent them to make a claim, had its own share of highly successful and downright swindling stories.

The MOJ had revoked the licenses of hundreds of claims companies because of their upfront fees, misconstrued payment structures and false advertising.

Today, according to the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, PPI has not yet reached its peak. The FOS, which still receives 1,000 complaints daily, reports that it will have more on its plate despite a great reduction on claims from 264,000 the first half of 2013 to 190,000 the second half of 2013. Experts attribute this to the banks’ exploitation of a regulatory loophole called “alternative redress”, which issued a refund for a regular-premium PPI despite the consumer having bought a single-premium PPI.

Depression: The Removal of Presence

A disturbing figure in your window turns out to be the tree next to your window lit by the street lamp across the yard. Its presence, although harmless, will unseat you and make you uncomfortable for the rest of your night. When you remove its presence by covering the windows, you give yourself comfort that the presence of something horrible is gone.

Social networks allow us to connect to other people, even people in our past that had done us wrong. If the wounds are fresh, trying to remove the source of depression means to remove them or yourself from social media. Presence builds up recall, and while it is good for advertising, it is not good for your emotional health.

It is more important to focus yourself on distractions, or concentrated activity. Keeping busy is one way. You could engage in creative endeavours or athletic activities. Anything that can take your mind off of what you’re trying to do is a good way to remove the presence of anything that makes you depressed.

Remove the presence in your life might seem too drastic, but the only way to forget is to understand that its presence will only generate more thinking and feeling from you, which will fuel your attachment even more.

What Did You Expect?

One reason for complete depression is too much expectation. A perfect example would be why people go insane or even commit suicide in the corporate world.

A business proprietor makes plans to ensure the sustenance of his or her business. The business faces many successes and some shortcomings. However, despite their effective planning and strategies, the business faced a flop after a decade. The proprietor can be devastated if he or she expected the business could pull through, or they could face the prospect of its failure as early as it began, allowing them a good contingency plan for dissolving and re-establishing a new business.

Another would be a person who expected a woman to answer his proposal for marriage. Despite their closeness and their years-long relationship, the rejection or the lack of readiness of the woman devastates the man. He could also choose to just accept the fact that the woman was expecting or wanting something else that was not in him.

The trend of these examples is that your expectations will become your downfall. Just because something you planned did not go well is reason enough to feel depressed. Sure you may have put in so much effort, time and money, but nothing is perfect and you cannot control every single variable in the event that took place. If you accept the fact that causality and things can still fail, you can avoid being depressed and just face the fact that you didn’t fail, but the process and way you did it, did.

A Willing Search for the Non-Existent

The imagination can make one happy and powerful at the same time. With complete power over a domain, a person is capable of forging anything, from characters in the realm, to the places and events that happens inside it. However, it is not real and anything that happens in such is non-existent. Imagination gives way to expectations, which may or may not happen in real life.

However, people imagine themselves to control every aspect in their life. Why some people become depressed is because their expectations of reality do not match that of their imagination. This is why some say those who are mentally challenged or have mental issues are the ones truly free because the grip of imagination is gone from their minds and they have the capability to enjoy their lives at the present.

Imagination primes a human to journey to the future because the objective of humans is mostly a willing search for the non-existent. Those who are fulfilled with their lives have found the non-existent in their imagination to be existing in the real world. Their imagination materialized through their own efforts. Imagination breeds objectives and goals, which are needed for human fulfilment.

The search for the non-existent is not always destructive especially if effort, and the recognition of effort and results along the way, the dreamer and worker notices. This will not lead to disappointment at all times, but only the learning of satisfaction in the reality in front of the person.

Alleviating Depression Through Relaxation and Positivity

Frustration and depression are co-actors as frustration can lead to a lack of hope and depression ensues right after. However, if one finds time to relax, he or she could actually fight depression. To think with a clear mind, one must also have a healthy, relaxing activity. Here are a few simple things to help fight your depression.

1. Give New Meaning
One could find imprints of depression when one sees places where he or she had been frustrated or angered by another person, an event or anything significant. The meaning of these places also sets the depressive mood for most people. Giving new meaning to these places, like inviting friends to join you in such specific places and enjoy your time, will help you tell them what you feel in such a place and how to let go of it by replacing it with better memories.

2. Pampering One’s Self
After all the depression and frustration you have felt, you will need to let go of these feelings. Accepting things can be easier if you realize that you are capable of living and relaxing yourself even after a depressing episode. You could head to a spa and treat some minor pains in your body. Remember, the body tenses when it is stressed and when the tension is fought of, you could think clearer. Head to the beach or a pool and have a different physical activity.

3. Meditation
If you have objective focus in your life, you can show yourself that what happened is part of life and you are yet to find the goal you want to reach. Meditating for at least two to three hours per day helps you keep yourself in focus with your goal. Identifying your goal is a start to avoid depression.

How Physical Exercises Help in Alleviating Depression

It is an old fact that people secrete endorphins every after physical exercise. A 30-minute to an hour’s worth of exercise on a regular basis helps a person have their natural flow of endorphins, which help alleviate depression and enhance the mood of the person. A strong link between exercise and happiness that helps improve the mood of those who exercise may actually exist.

Antibodies are produced by the body in massive amounts when one gets enough exercise and are always in a better mood. According to studies, people who are often in a good mood are more resistant to diseases and they increase the body’s antibodies by more than half its original speed. T-cells, or the “hunters” of the human immune system, are massively produced with better mood, which helps alleviate depression as well.

What releases endorphins after an intense or hard workout is the sense of achievement. Physical exercise requires great amounts of concentration. During the 30 minutes to an hour of workout you’ve done, you are focused only on one thing and at the sign that your workout is finally done, your mind lets go of the concentration stress. Along with the acknowledged physical rest, your body produces endorphins that you have achieved something important and significant for your body.

Does Excessive Internet Usage Lead to Depression?

According to Leeds University, people they identify as Internet addicts are likely to be depressed than those who only use the Internet moderately. The psychologists have found that there is a link between Internet use and depression.

The researchers said that through answering a survey regarding their daily hours spent browsing the Internet and the Beck Depression Inventory, people who were found depressed on the latter test where 1.4% of the total percentage of those who used more hours in using the Internet.

The researchers found that excessive Internet usage may contribute to depression, but their research does not answer whether the Internet makes people depressed first or the Internet attracts already-depressed people.

The results indicated that the respondents, all between 16051 years old, found the mean age of males to be around 21 -24 and most of the women sat around 18-20. Most of these Internet addicts spend their time watching sexually-gratifying media, online gaming websites and communities.

According to another research of the IEEE Technology and Society Magazine, students who showed signs of depression used the Internet tend to chat many people they do not know and share their experiences. They may also have a higher tendency to adopt ADHD.
